SAND BAG LOCATIONS FOR PORTLAND OREGON

The following information comes directly from local government sources on where to find the closest sand bagging location.  Also, where to pick up supplies for sandbags.  This information is current as of October 2016.

The following cities are found below:  Portland, Boring, Canby, Estacada, Gladstone, Lake Oswego, Molalla, Milwaukee, West Linn, Hoodland

FOR PORTLAND AREA RESIDENTS

Sandbag Locations

To help residents and business owners prepare for a flood emergency, sand and sandbags are available at no charge to anyone who wants to use them to protect their property from flood damage. City crews keep the sites stocked with sand and sand bags. No shovels are provided, so the public must bring their own. Locations are:

  • SE 88th Avenue just south of Holgate Boulevard in the parking lot at Lents Park. Enter parking lot at the bottom of the hill, and follow one-way traffic to the sand pile at the exit on the east side of SE 88th;
  • SE 111th Avenue and Harold Street at the southeast corner of the intersection; and
  • SW 42nd Avenue and Vermont Street in the lower parking lot of Gabriel Park; enter Gabriel Park from Vermont.

During flooding events, call ahead to ensure sandbag availability. Sandbags are for residential use only. All sites are self-service. Bring your shovel!

City of Milwaukie

Sandbags for residents in the event of heavy rain or flooding

The City of Milwaukie provides a sandbag site for Milwaukie citizens and businesses during the flood season.

The site is a self-serve site available during regular working hours and is located at the City’s Public Works Facility at 6101 SE Johnson Creek Blvd, Milwaukie, OR. If you need sandbags contact (503) 786-7600 Mon. – Fri., 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Residents need to check in at the Johnson Creek Facility’s front office for sand bags.

Clackamas County Fire District #1 also has a self-serve sandbag site open 24 hrs a day at Station 4, 6600 SE Lake Road, Milwaukie, OR. For information contact (503) 742-2604.

Sandbag Safety Tips

  1. Use proper lifting techniques to avoid injury and fatigue. Lift with your legs and bend at the knees to save your back.
  2. Sandbags are treated to prevent deterioration when stored. Use work gloves and avoid contact with your eyes or mouth.
  3. Stay in eye contact with heavy equipment operators and keep alert for truck backup alarms.
  4. Floodwaters can be polluted. Use rubber gloves and appropriate clothing if contact with water is unavoidable.
  5. Wear adequate clothing in layers and watertight boots. Reflective material on outer clothing is essential for night work.
